What’s Included in Full-Care Boarding
Our comprehensive full-care boarding program is designed to meet the needs of horses at every stage of life and in every discipline. Daily care includes twice-daily feeding with premium Timothy and orchard grass hay, customized grain programs tailored to your horse’s individual nutritional requirements, and daily stall cleaning with fresh bedding. All stalls feature automatic waterers ensuring fresh, clean water is available 24/7.
Turnout options are flexible and customized to each horse’s needs. We offer individual paddocks for horses requiring solo turnout, small group turnouts for compatible horses, and larger pasture turnout for horses that thrive in herd environments. All fencing is foal-safe and regularly maintained, with multiple sizes of paddocks to accommodate different needs. During wet winter months, our all-weather paddocks ensure horses can still enjoy outdoor time without standing in mud.
Beyond basic care, our boarding includes daily observation and monitoring by experienced staff, blanketing services during cold weather, supplement administration, coordination with veterinarians and farriers, and 24-hour emergency care. We maintain detailed records for each horse, documenting feeding, health observations, and any special care requirements. This attention to detail ensures that horse owners can trust their horses are receiving consistent, knowledgeable care every single day.
Specialized Care for Different Horse Types
Performance Horses: Competition horses require precise nutrition, consistent exercise schedules, and expert handling. Our facility is designed to support horses competing in hunter/jumper, dressage, and other disciplines. Access to our Eurociser allows controlled conditioning between rides, while our premium arena footing helps maintain soundness during training. We understand show schedules and accommodate trailering needs, late-night returns from competitions, and pre-show preparation.
Young Horses & Foals: We have extensive experience handling weanlings, yearlings, and young horses in training. Our foal-safe fencing, careful introduction to handling protocols, and experienced staff ensure young horses develop good ground manners and healthy socialization. Turnout options include age-appropriate groupings where young horses can play and develop naturally while staying safe.
Rehabilitation & Layup: Our custom 16-stall custom barn features padded floor mats, heated wash racks, and larger 12’x16′ stalls perfect for horses recovering from injury or surgery. The controlled environment of the Eurociser is invaluable for horses returning to work under veterinary supervision. We work closely with your veterinary team to follow prescribed exercise and care protocols, administer medications as directed, and provide the quiet, consistent environment necessary for healing.
Broodmares & Foaling: We provide specialized care for pregnant mares and newborn foals. Separate paddocks with foal-safe fencing, round-the-clock monitoring during foaling season, and experienced staff trained in neonatal care make Jaz Creek one of the few Bay Area facilities offering comprehensive breeding services.
Training
Professional Training Programs
Jaz Creek is currently home to two hunter/jumper programs, a boutique dressage program, and partners with Ijula Equestrian for hunter/jumper lessons. We also welcome additional professional trainers and self-care boarders who manage their own training programs.
Hunter/Jumper Training with Ijula Equestrian
Through our partnership with Ijula Equestrian, riders have access to comprehensive hunter/jumper training programs. From beginner riders taking their first lessons to advanced competitors preparing for A-circuit shows, Ijula Equestrian provides expert instruction tailored to each rider’s goals. The program includes private lessons, semi-private sessions, and group clinics, with both school horses available for non-owners and training programs for clients’ personal horses.
Our facility is purpose-built for hunter/jumper work. The outdoor arena features professional-grade show jumps and custom footing designed specifically for jumping. The covered arena provides year-round training capability, essential for maintaining consistent progress through Sonoma County’s rainy season. Access to both arenas means training schedules remain flexible and riders can work in optimal conditions regardless of weather.
Self-Care Boarding Options
For experienced equestrians who prefer to manage their own horse care and training, we offer self-care boarding arrangements. Self-care boarders enjoy access to all facility amenities—arenas, round pen, trails, and the Eurociser—while maintaining independence in their training programs. This option is ideal for professional trainers establishing their business, riders with extensive horse management experience, or those who simply prefer a hands-on approach to their horse’s daily care.
Broodmares & Foaling
Broodmares & Foaling Services
Jaz Creek is one of the few boarding facilities in the entire Bay Area offering comprehensive foaling services. Our small, specialized operation allows us to provide the round-the-clock attention and expert care that broodmares and newborn foals require.
Why Choose Jaz Creek for Foaling?
Foaling requires experience, vigilance, and facilities designed specifically for the safety of mares and foals. Many boarding facilities lack the expertise, staff coverage, or appropriate fencing and turnout options necessary for breeding programs. At Jaz Creek, foaling services are a cornerstone of our business, not an afterthought. We’ve successfully foaled numerous healthy foals and have the infrastructure and knowledge to handle both routine deliveries and emergency situations.
Foal-Safe Environment
Every paddock and pasture at Jaz Creek features foal-safe fencing—no wire, no gaps where curious foals might get caught, and proper height and spacing to prevent injuries. Our staff has extensive experience handling foals from birth through weaning, understanding their developmental stages and behavioral needs. Separate turnout options allow mares and foals to bond safely away from other horses, then gradually integrate into appropriate social groups as foals mature.
Comprehensive Foaling Care
Our broodmare management services include specialized nutrition for pregnant and lactating mares, monitoring throughout pregnancy, coordination with reproductive veterinarians, and 24-hour supervision during foaling season. When delivery is imminent, we provide constant observation, immediate assistance if complications arise, and coordination with your veterinarian or our consulting vet.
Post-foaling care includes monitoring mare and foal health, ensuring successful nursing, coordinating wellness checks and vaccinations, and expert handling as foals grow. We understand the critical first days and weeks of a foal’s life and provide the attentive care necessary to give every foal the best possible start.
Breeding Services
In addition to boarding client-owned broodmares, Jaz Creek breeds a select number of horses each year for sale and for our own program. This keeps our foaling expertise sharp and demonstrates our commitment to equine reproduction. Whether you’re breeding your first foal or managing an established broodmare band, we have the knowledge and facilities to support your breeding program.
Retirees
We love retirees and strive to give them the attention and care they deserve in their twilight years. Many older show horses prefer to live in the barn and get daily grooming and care, others are happy living outside in our paddocks by themselves or with friends. We offer a full range of options and services for the noble older generation and would be happy to help your horse enjoy their retired life.
Why Horse Owners Choose Jaz Creek
Why Horse Owners Choose Jaz Creek
Experience & Expertise
Since opening in 2005, Jaz Creek has built a reputation for exceptional horse care across all disciplines and life stages. Our staff brings decades of combined experience in competition horse management, breeding and foaling, rehabilitation, and retirement care. This depth of knowledge means we can anticipate needs, recognize subtle health changes, and provide the specialized care that different horses require.
Facility Quality & Maintenance
A boarding facility is only as good as its maintenance. We take pride in keeping Jaz Creek in top condition year-round. Arenas are dragged regularly to maintain consistent footing. Paddocks are carefully managed to prevent mud and maintain healthy turnout spaces. Stalls are bedded deeply and cleaned thoroughly. Equipment is maintained and replaced as needed. The large-scale 2022 renovation brought our already excellent facility to an even higher standard, ensuring that horses and riders enjoy safe, well-maintained amenities.
Personalized Attention
While we board up to 40 horses, we’re intentionally not a massive commercial operation. This allows us to know each horse individually—their personalities, preferences, quirks, and needs. We notice when a horse seems slightly off, when turnout buddies aren’t getting along, or when a usually enthusiastic eater leaves grain behind. This individualized attention catches small issues before they become big problems and ensures each horse receives care tailored specifically to them.
Location & Accessibility
Our location on Roblar Road in Petaluma provides the perfect balance: peaceful, rural surroundings with excellent accessibility. We’re just 10 minutes from downtown Petaluma and Santa Rosa, with easy Highway 101 access for trailering to shows and events. Yet once you turn onto our property, you’re surrounded by Sonoma County wine country’s beautiful rolling hills and quiet atmosphere—the ideal environment for horses to thrive.
Community & Atmosphere
The boarding community at Jaz Creek values quality horse care, professionalism, and respect for all disciplines. Whether you ride dressage, hunters, jumpers, or simply enjoy trail riding, you’ll find a welcoming environment. Our boarders appreciate the drama-free atmosphere and the shared commitment to excellent horsemanship. Many of our clients have been with us for years, a testament to the positive community we’ve built.
World Class Care
Jaz Creek, Inc. opened its doors in 2005, offering impeccable care to broodmares and foals, competition horses, and retirees. The state-of-the-art boarding and training facility features indoor and outdoor boarding options, large grass paddocks, two full size arenas with competition jumps, and 24 hour care.
I’ve had two horses stay at Jaz Creek. They always loved the large turnouts and attention. My last horse was born there and always loved coming home to Jaz Creek after his adventures. Jeanette and Angel care about each and every horse as of they are their own.
